Eventing is the triathlon of equestrian sports, combining the grace and elegance of dressage, the speed and boldness of cross country, and the precision and agility of show jumping. Local events in north Texas have divisions suitable for beginners (with walk-trot dressage tests and jumps as low as 12") up to those divisions suitable for professionals or experienced amateurs (with intricate dressage tests, jumps to 4', and speeds to 550 meters per minute). Horses of all breeds, sizes & ages participate in eventing, from 12 hand grade ponies to 17 hand thoroughbreds. Riders of all ages and experience levels enjoy the sport, from beginners to seasoned "master" amateur and professional adults. Eventing is an exhilarating sport in which you will develop a unique partnership with your horse and make lifelong friends with fascinating people from all walks of life.

A group of North Texas eventing enthusiasts banded together in the 1970s and eventually incorporated in 1981 as North Texas Combined Training Association. NTCTA earned its 501c3 non-profit status and later changed its name to North Texas Eventing Association. NTEA's primary mission is to educate the community about eventing, help amateur riders improve their skills and achieve their goals as eventers, and grow the sport in north Texas at the grass roots level. NTEA is governed by a board of directors, elected annually by the membership, and is a local affiliate of The United States Eventing Association (USEA), the national governing body for our sport.
Each year NTEA sponsors and/or organizes educational programs, demonstrations, schooling days, clinics, speakers and/or workshops as well as a year-end awards banquet. In November 2008, NTEA hosted the first Instructor Certification Program workshop in USEA Area V (a four-state area). In February 2010, NTEA brought internationally-renowned Aussie Olympic silver medalists, Clayton & Lucinda Fredericks, to North Texas for a three-day clinic, their first in North America. NTEA awards monetary grants for riders to further their education in the sport; recognizes outstanding adults & youth in our area by year-end sportsmanship and service awards; rewards achievements of horses and riders by year-end High Point Awards in both schooling show and USEA/USEF recognized show categories; contributes to Adult Rider & Young Rider programs; underwrites competitions; and provides a volunteer base for local events. NTEA raises money for our programs through membership dues, tax deductible donations, and an annual silent auction in conjunction with the year-end awards banquet.
NTEA members enjoy exclusive benefits such as free or discounted products, services, clinics, demonstrations, schooling days and entries; frequent email "blasts" with up to the minute information about eventing in the area; informative newsletters several times per year; free classified advertising; a Members Directory; a year-end awards program for High Point winners; community service, fellowship and networking opportunities; educational grants; and sportsmanship/service awards. Business members receive the added benefit of free advertising in our newsletters and on our web site, including detailed information about their business in our Trainers & Facilities Directory.
